Setting :
Everything so far takes place in Montreal,Quebec.
First at the Ostrich Hotel,where Jules and baby have moved to.
The Ostrich hotel is right on the busy St.Lauren and St.Catherine street.
It was not an idea place to raise a child because it is a red light district,running throughout Montreal.
Newspapers in the area had strippers on the front,Hells angels often hung around. Baby feels that everyone there is living a fictional existence.
The atmosphere throughout this quarter of the book is usually very dark,grown up where barley any child feelings happen,and innocent is not easily found.

About a week later of living there,Baby turns 12,
Having a small party with Jules and his best friend,which she got a hat and a doll.
Jules and his best friend leave Baby for Heroin.
So baby goes to the indoor skating rink and begins to insult her doll, all the children around her,approving.
An older,Marika speaks to her about loosing her virginity when she turns 12,and getting into prostutution.
When Baby arrives back home,a strange man she never met before was sitting on their coach beside Jules and Lester,his name was Kent and they were all stoned.
Later Jules comes into Baby's room,still stoned with a carefree attitude,
They speak for a little bit.Jules being very calm and honest.
He quickly passes out,and Baby feels safe.
A little bit later the atmosphere quickly changes:
Jules gets very sick with tuberculosis,and Baby is place in foster care.
The atmosphere is very fearful and tense. The social worker does not speak to Baby in the car.
Baby is scared,she does not like traveling without her dad.
She is brought to a home just outside Val Des Loupes.
Everyone there worked in either a factory or had just come out of prison.
People looked out of place,
No tall building and the houses reminded Baby of milk cartoons.
Baby's mood was very hurt and lost,
Like nobody cared about her,as an individual anymore.
She's missed Jules a lot,
And worse came to worse and she had to stay for longer than expected.
About a month later, a 14 year old boy,Linus Lucas,moved in.
He would say he was an addict to weed, and walk around with a blanket around him,saying he was going through withdrawal.
Baby felt honoured when Linus Lucas made her his "personal assistant".
Linus Lucas felt he was great and superior.
The foster mother went to see her sister once,
Who did not like any of the foster children.
They say outside a zoo,on the grass and suddently a bunch of kids walked over to Linus, beat him up and took him Walkman.
Linus Lucas' uncle came to the foster home and began to yell at him,
Baby was saddened by this.
A new child,Zachary came to the home.
He and Baby quickly became friends.
The foster mother would complain to the social worker about Baby,
To "get her gifts".
Baby was not happy, she was mostly settled in when
she finally could go back as live with Jules.
